Why MemAero

Five things worth knowing
before you buy anything.

FPV has a reputation for complexity. Here is why ours is different — and what each one means for you.

Crash it — we rebuild it, from Lancaster.

The structural frame is 3D-printed in our own workshop. A crashed arm is printed and posted to you, usually next day. No couriering to China and waiting weeks.

How our repair service works →

Click the battery in and fly — one pack for both drones.

Most FPV drones ship with a bare battery velcro-strapped to the spine. Ours uses a sealed, slide-in smart battery — the same principle as the DJI Avata. No fire risk from exposed cells, consistent balance every flight, and one spare battery works across both models.

What is a smart FPV drone battery? →

Let go and it hovers. Lose signal and it flies home.

Built-in GPS means the drone holds its position the moment you stop the sticks. If the radio link drops, it automatically returns to your launch point — safely, without you touching the controller.

Why GPS + Return-to-Home matters for new flyers →

Plan a route on your phone — the drone flies it for you.

Open ArduPilot firmware means real waypoint navigation, geofencing, and autonomous flight — drawn on a map. No locked ecosystem, no cloud account required. And when you are ready, you can reprogram every flight parameter yourself.

Why MemAero runs ArduPilot open firmware →

For apprehensive buyers

FPV has a reputation
for being hard.
Ours isn't.

Traditional FPV — racing quads, manual-only flying — takes months of practice. MemAero drones work differently.

1
Start in a simulator — free, on your laptop.
Thirty minutes a day in a free flight simulator will get you airborne safely within a week. No risk, no cost. Full beginner guide →
2
GPS Position Hold keeps it steady while you find your feet.
Release the sticks and the drone stops and hovers exactly where it is. The safety net every new flyer needs — and the main reason we chose ArduPilot over locked firmware.
3
Go freestyle when you're ready — the drone supports it.
ArduPilot has a full acrobatic mode when you want it. The same drone that hovers safely on day one will throw flips and rolls on day sixty. Is the Aero 2 right for beginners? →

The Range

Two drones.
One ecosystem.

Two British-made FPV drones, designed and built in Lancaster. Both run ArduPilot open firmware and share the same sealed smart battery — a combination you won't find from any other FPV drone UK manufacturer. The difference between them is frame size and what you want to do with it.

The differentiator

Engineered,
not strapped together.

Every other FPV drone ships with a bare LiPo battery velcro-strapped to the spine. It works. It is also visually unfinished, thermally unmanaged, and carries real fire risk if the pack is damaged in a crash.

MemAero takes a different approach. The smart battery is commercially engineered, sealed, and slides into a purpose-built bay at the rear of the airframe — the same principle behind the DJI Avata. It is not a LiPo bolted on as an afterthought.

No exposed-cell fire risk. The sealed enclosure contains any thermal event.
Consistent balance point every flight — no re-positioning the pack across sessions.
One battery, two drones. The same pack works in both the Aero 2 and Aero 3.
Finished product aesthetic — looks built, not assembled in a garage.

Common questions

Before you ask.

Is an FPV drone legal to fly in the UK?
Yes — FPV drones are legal to fly in the UK for recreational use. You need a free CAA Flyer ID and an Operator ID; both are completed online and take under an hour. Drones over 100g must be registered (which covers both MemAero models). We include registration guidance in every box.
Do I need a licence to fly an FPV drone in the UK?
There is no formal pilot licence required for recreational FPV flying in the UK. You need a free CAA Flyer ID (a short online theory test) and an Operator ID. Commercial use — filming for money, for example — requires a GVC qualification and additional CAA authorisation.
What happens if I crash it?
Send it back to Lancaster and we rebuild it. Printed parts are made fresh, electronics are tested, the drone is reflashed and recalibrated. Typical turnaround is two weeks. First-year warranty covers manufacturing defects free of charge; crash damage is chargeable but priced fairly.
What firmware do MemAero drones run?
Both models run ArduPilot — open-source firmware with a large developer community. Waypoint missions, geofencing, and autonomous return-to-home are controlled via QGroundControl, a free app for iOS and Android. No proprietary cloud account required.
What is the price going to be?
Founders pricing for waitlist members will be confirmed in your confirmation email. We will publish full RRP when we open public orders. Join the waitlist to lock in your place and your price.
Can I use the same battery in both drones?
Yes. Both the Aero 2 and Aero 3 share the same sealed smart battery. A spare bought for one works in the other, and the charging dock handles both.
